Alert the Press to Southwark Council’s destruction of Camberwell Old
and New Cemeteries’ woods and graves
23rd September 2017
TAKE ACTION
Southwark Council is burying over the dead and wants to dig up thousands of graves for new burial plots – with devastating consequences for nature and heritage.
Acres of woods and graves have alrady been lost. But acres remain to be saved.
Stop Southwark bulldozing our cemeteries. Save them as nature reserves.
Dear SSW supporter,
Alert the Press to Southwark Council’s destruction of its cemetery woods and graves
Please express your anger and disgust to your local newspaper or TV station.
Southwark Council is toppling and removing poor people’s memorials in the cemeteries. They are cutting down acres of trees. All this to sell off burial plots on top of the dead. Even the CWGC graves of war heroes are being developed over for new private burial areas. Not enough people know about this.
You can help by emailing, writing, tweeting, instagramming media outlets including:

As well as CWGC War Graves, 48,000 other people are also in graves in Area Z – including William Uden, Military Medal recipient (pictured) and many from the WW2 era and later.
